Message from the Headmaster
Welcome back to Term 3! We hope you all enjoyed a fantastic break and quality time with your families. As we begin this term, we are thrilled to see the campus bustling with energy and enthusiasm as we welcome both returning and new families to our Wollondilly Anglican College community. We extend a warm and heartfelt welcome to all the newcomers - we are delighted that you have joined us!
We would like to express our deepest gratitude to all our parents and students for being an integral part of our College community. Your unwavering support and involvement have been instrumental in fostering Learning, Care and Culture. These focus areas resonate strongly within our community, shaping our collective vision for a nurturing and fulfilling educational journey.
Our dedicated teachers and staff deserve special commendation for their unwavering commitment to providing excellent learning opportunities and genuine care for all our students. They are the heart of our institution and we are immensely proud of their efforts in nurturing young minds inspired and guided by our saviour, Jesus Christ.
Speaking of our students, they continue to amaze us with their enthusiasm for learning and their embodiment of the strong student culture we hold dear. Your passion and dedication inspire us each day and we are confident that we can achieve great things together.
Recently, we had the privilege of showing some guests around our campus and we were delighted to hear their comments on the calm and caring atmosphere that permeates our college. This would not be possible without the collective effort of our entire community and we are thankful for every individual who contributes to making our campus a welcoming and nurturing place for all.
We also take this opportunity to extend our heartfelt thanks to our dedicated teachers, who recently completed a week of professional learning. Their commitment to self-improvement and passion for delivering your children's best education is commendable. During this week, they engaged in insightful sessions, including dedicated time spent learning from God's Word. We believe that our Christian foundation is essential in all we do here. As we move forward into this term and the rest of the year, let us remember that everything we achieve is possible through God's grace and sovereignty. We are grateful for His continued support in guiding and proving for our College community.
In closing, we pray that each one of you has a blessed, joyful, and successful term ahead. Let us continue to grow and learn together, cherishing the values that define us and creating an environment where every individual can thrive.
Thank you, and let's make Term 3 remarkable!
Mr Trevor Norman
College Headmaster
From The Deputy
Welcome Back to Term 3!
I trust the break has been an enjoyable one and students are looking forward to engaging in another term here at Wollondilly. Last week, staff were busy being upskilled during a very productive professional development week at the College. I would also like to congratulate and thank the large number of Year 12 students who made the most of Champ Camp in the second week of the holiday period. Thanks also to the many staff who gave up their time to support our Year 12 students study or complete their major works.
Year 12 Trials
I would like to wish Year 12 all the best for the HSC Trial Examinations commencing next week. These exams are an important opportunity to refine examination technique and practice, in many cases a three-hour exam. I would strongly encourage students to prioritise their time during the examination period. For many subjects, these examinations form a significant part of the overall assessment mark and rank.
Mr Paul Burns
Deputy Headmaster

Transport Information
Picton Buslines
We would like to notify you that from Monday, 31 July 2023, Picton Buslines drivers and staff will be implementing a two-week blitz on school student bus passes.
The Transport for NSW School Student Transport Scheme (SSTS) provides eligible school students with free or subsidised travel on public transport between home and school. When travelling between home and the College, students must adhere to various regulations regarding passenger behaviour and the Codes of Conduct for travel by bus. One of the obligations of students is to show their travel pass or ticket when requested.
We ask that you assist by requesting that teachers on bus duty ask all students that catch Picton Buslines buses to and/or from the College to have their physical bus passes ready to display to the driver before boarding the bus. Note that we will not accept students showing a photo of their bus pass on their phone.
If a student is planning on catching the bus and they do not have a current valid bus pass, their pass is damaged or lost, please inform their parents/guardians to contact our office on 02 4677 1564 or email us at info@pictonbuslines.com.au to organise a pass.

Secondary News
A warm welcome back to Term 3, I trust you had an opportunity for some rest and relaxation over the three-week break. Students have been reminded that there has been a change to their College timetables particularly with subjects that do a rotation such as HSIE and TAS in Years 7-10. This may mean your child has a new teacher and or a new room on their timetable. Please encourage your child to check and print out their new timetable
Years 7-10 Reports
At the end of Term 2, students in Years 7-10 had their end-of-semester reports uploaded onto Edumate. This is a great opportunity for students to reflect on the learning that happened in Terms 1 and 2 and to make some adjustments to their learning and their individual goals. Parents are encouraged to sit and read this report with their child/ren. The College is also providing another round of Parent-Teacher Interviews on Tuesday, 15 August and Thursday, 24 August to discuss your child’s learning. These will occur in person in the Warne Auditorium and parents should refer to communication from Mr Baulch to book these interviews.
Year 12 Trial HSC Examinations
Year 12 students begin their Trial HSC Examinations on Monday, 31 July, please continue to uphold them in your prayers as they go through this process. The Trials will be held in the Warne Auditorium, please be mindful as you move around this area, to be quiet. Many of these Exams will be held after normal College hours, so please be mindful of this.
Year 12 HSC Showcase Evening
We look forward to celebrating with our Year 12 students tonight here at the College – starting at 6.00 pm, as we view Major Works in a variety of subject areas. Many of the students (and teachers) have put in a lot of hard work and effort over the last few terms and would like to display their Major Works showcasing their amazing talent and skill.
Student Engagement
One of the areas that staff completed professional development on during the College PD week was student engagement. Over the next few weeks, I hope to share with you some of the ‘learning’ that was completed by staff and some of the results collected through a student engagement survey that was recently completed. What is encouraging from this survey is that many students value their learning and the extra effort and time that staff put into preparing lessons. Having spoken to several students this week, they felt that student engagement included aspects such as :
- How we get involved in the class
- How we listen in class
- How we interact and pay attention
- How we respond to lessons
- How we participate in lessons
- How we focus and contribute to the lesson
WAC Students Visit Singapore
During the holidays, several of our WAC students and staff completed our Singapore Cultural Exchange Program. See below for a link to a short video about the trip and some of the students' thoughts who attended the trip.
Dali Martin - Year 9
From Thursday, 29 June to Friday, 7 July, a group of students and teachers went to Singapore, as part of a Collaboration Program. We had a great time hosting the Singaporean students over here and were all excited to both see our new friends again and also to see their day-to-day lives. Everyone in Singapore is so friendly and hospitable and everyone at their school made us feel welcome. After stepping off the plane, two things everyone had told us became immediately obvious. The first being, the heat and humidity that hit you instantly and after coming from Australia's winter, no one was prepared for it. The second being, how clean it was. And not just free of rubbish, but also everything was neat and plants were kept to perfection. Both of these things helped with the exciting realisation that we were in a different country.
Emily Galea - Year 11
As part of our trip, we were able to experience what it was like to be a part of their school. Each of us attended a variety of classes, some of which we’d never taken before such as Chinese and even Higher Chinese. The students at Anglican High School are all expected to do very well at school. When I was a part of an English class, the teacher would only show them the marking criteria for an A, and a B response as she didn't want anyone to aim for anything lower. Their periods also are shorter than ours and they don’t move from class to class. Another difference we all noticed was their cafeteria and lunch times. All students have different lunch times dependent on their Year Group. They also generally buy their food from the cafeteria regularly. In the cafeteria, there are stalls that consist of dishes and snacks significant to Singaporean culture. During our time at their school, we were also fortunate enough to take part in their co-curricular activities. Every student needs to at least be a part of one of these groups. The Co-curricular groups that run are categorized into four subgroups; sports, performing arts, club and society. During these activities, Mr Grant was able to conduct a band and Miss Valente was also able to teach in Dance. A stand-out group that I know all of us can agree on was the NCC Group which stands for National Cadet Corps. This group is a National service group that consists of only males. To become a part of this group, you need to fill out a form and then you are chosen at random. This group performs routines using unarmed weapons which they make formations and even perform stunts with.
Rianna Warne - Year 11
We were sightseeing and we got to see so many amazing places, there were some places we went with the students like the Orchard Gardens and the student trail they took us on and then there were days where we went just us our group to things like the Gardens by the Bay and the Merlion at Marina Bay Sands. The Singapore staff and students also brought snacks and different foods for us to try, one afternoon while we were working on our Collaboration Project, they brought a kind of rice pudding thing that was covered in coconut and had a chocolate filling inside.
Kye James - Year 10
Whether it was shouting us lunch at the lively Hawker centres, teaching us how to use chopsticks, showing us the stunning Singapore or the absolute delicate and caring nature of a Singaporean, I’d like to mention the bonds we’ve forged, the lessons we’ve learned and the memories we have created with students from Anglican High School in Singapore as part of the Collaboration Trip. Where we have been privileged to interact with students at Anglican High School Singapore. No words can describe the friendships that have transcended the boundaries of language, culture and geography; friendships that have illuminated our lives with vibrant colours of diversity. Once strangers from a different corner of the globe, each carrying our own stories, traditions and dreams. Yet, we found common ground on this shared journey of education and collaboration. We learnt more than just academics, we learned about humanity, resilience, and the unifying power of friendship. With immense gratitude, I would like to take the time to express our heartfelt thanks to a group of extraordinary individuals who have made an extraordinary contribution to a group of students' education and lives. I would like to recognize the dedicated teachers who took us on an International school trip to the culturally rich city-state of Singapore. Mrs Evans, Nurse Sally, Mr Grant and Miss Valente, we applaud and very much thank you. This was not a small task. Planning and executing an international school trip is a tremendous responsibility - a responsibility that shouldn't be taken lightly, but our teachers took on with grace, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to our safety, wellbeing, and education. There were undoubtedly long nights, logistical challenges, and moments of uncertainty. Yet, these teachers carried out their duties with an infectious enthusiasm and a spirit of adventure, inspiring us as students every step of the way.

Performing Arts News
NEW T-2 Choir
We are thrilled to announce the launch of our newest Performing Arts Group at WAC: The T-2 Choir! This delightful choral group is specifically aimed at our younger students and will be holding weekly rehearsals during Thursday Break 1. Led by the passionate Mrs Waters and Mrs Buckley, our T-2 Choir promises to be an exciting and enriching experience for the little ones at WAC. (I think it is also fantastic to include our youngest students in Transition - these students will be brought from and to White Cottage by a Teacher’s Aide for each rehearsal).
It goes beyond creating a pleasant sound; singing has numerous benefits that play a crucial role in a child's overall development including enhancing their language skills, nurturing a sense of teamwork and providing a healthy outlet for emotional expression. No prior singing experience is necessary, just a love for music and a willingness to explore the world of melody and rhythm through singing!
On Thursday, we had a large group of students in Years 1 and 2 come along and see what Choir was all about. By all accounts, they thoroughly enjoyed themselves and had fun. Mrs Waters and Mrs Buckley will have Transition and Kindergarten students come along next week, but there may need to be some restrictions on numbers, depending on how many come along. Stay tuned!
NOTE: There is an additional opportunity open to K-2 with Mini Movers, run by Mrs McTaggert and Mrs Williams on Wednesdays during Break 1.
AMEB Examination News - Piano
Congratulations to Torin Ford-McGuire of Year 5 who received an ‘A’ grade result for his Third Grade Piano AMEB (Australian Music Examinations Board) exam. This is an outstanding achievement! It is also important to recognise the efforts of Mrs Dwyer, his piano tutor on this result.
Performing Arts - Singapore Collaboration 2023
As part of the Singapore Collaboration trip, eight students performed at a whole school assembly at Singapore Anglican High. Having rehearsed in the lead-up to the trip, the music students studied three Australian-themed works, the theme from ‘The Man From Snowy River’, ‘Waltzing Matilda’ and then they led a rendition of the chorus from ‘Home Among the Gumtrees’. The Dance students learnt an emotional work entitled ‘My Island Home’, a medley of arrangements of the popular song.
Despite the heat, the early morning start and the eyes and ears of 1,300 Anglican High staff and students, our performing arts students played and danced outstandingly. Congratulations to:
- Alyssa Galea Year 9 - Violin/Dance
- Gabrielle McIntosh Year 9 - Violin
- Jackson Welsh Year 9 - Drums
- Tameka Den Year 9 - Dance
- Eden Liddiard Year 10 - Piano
- Kiara Blain Year 10 - Dance
- Emily Galea Year 11 - Keyboard/Dance
- Rianna Warne Year 11 - Dance

College Chaplain - Relationships
The College Learner Disposition focus for Term 3 is Relationships. This is a habit that we are working on developing and cultivating in our students, their learning, their character and also in their faith.
We've just started on the book of Hebrews in devotions. This morning we looked at Hebrews 1:1-4 and we were challenged to consider the way in which Jesus reveals to us who God is. Jesus is described as being the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being (Hebrews 1:1-3). The author of Hebrews is giving the reader some good advice - that advice is centred on who Jesus is.
I wonder, in your life, how do you respond when you hear good advice? Do you implement it into your life? When I'm given good advice I take note of it, I find ways to apply that advice practically into my life - why, because it's good, it's beneficial.
The advice from the author of Hebrews is that Jesus reveals to us who God is. More than that, Jesus is God, He's the exact representation of his being. As we think about relationships this term, I think this is a great place to start. The author of Hebrews is emphasizing that the most important relationship of ALL is between us and Jesus. The question that's left for us is, how are we going to respond to this advice?

Term 3 Prayer Breakfast Invitation
Amongst the business of Term 3, I'd like to extend an opportunity for you to join us as we stop, pause and bring the things on our hearts and minds to God in prayer.
Our Term 2 Prayer Breakfast will be kicking off on Saturday, 2 September. All are welcome to join us from 8.00 am - 8.30 am for some bacon and egg rolls before we join together in prayer from 8.30 am - 9.00 am.
I completely understand the busy schedule all of us have on the weekends. There are many competing factors and commitments. Saturday is normally full of community sporting events along with various other activities. However, in this business, taking the time to stop and pause with our great God is incredibly beneficial.
I'd love to see you there!
If you're able to make it please RSVP to m.roberts@wac.nsw.edu.au by Wednesday, 23 August.
