    20th Year Celebration - Foundation Day – 23 June 2023

History Speech Summary: Dr Stuart Quarmby (Foundation Headmaster)
It is a great opportunity to mention our pioneers and their vision for Wollondilly Anglican College:

Mr Ron Webb (Second College Council Chairman)
The growth of the College is a real testimony to what the God of the Impossible can do when faithful people trust Him.

Dr Laurie Scandrett (Former CEO, Sydney Anglican Schools Corporation)
When the Anglican Schools Corporation started Wollondilly Anglican College, the key was the group of local Christian people who had been actively praying for the establishment of a local Christian school in the area.

Mr Wayne Deeth: (Foundation College Council Member)
I look back and I am so thrilled to have been a part of God’s plan; part of trusting and not knowing what was way beyond what any of us thought would be imaginable.

The College was built on five Foundations

    • Christian Education – pointing to Christ
    • The pursuit of Academic Excellence and strong Sporting and Creative Arts Programs.
    • The building of the local community
    • Pride in belonging
    • Quality pastoral care – virtues, ethics, character and values.

We are thankful to this community for building this College: The belief, compassion, commitment and sheer hard work of those who set the standards. It has been built by a magnificent College Council, our dedicated P&F Association, our great staff, supportive parents, backing from our local churches and the Anglican Schools Corporation.

The history of Wollondilly Anglican College is His Story. God is evident at every point, often in surprising and wonderful ways. This College has been His creative masterpiece: For Christ’s Glory.

    2023 Key Events & Dates

    UPCOMING EVENTS - TERM 3

    • 17-21 July - Staff PD Week (No Students)
    • 24 July - First day of Term 3

    From The Deputy

    20th-Year Badges
It has been a tradition to mark significant milestones at Wollondilly with a badge presented to each student and staff member at that time. This week, students across the College were presented with a badge commemorating 20 years and students are encouraged to wear these badges with pride, either on their blazer or jacket.

    Student Reports - Resourcefulness
Students across the Primary and Secondary Years will be receiving their Semester 1 Reports. Reflection is an important skill linked to resourcefulness. In order to make links and determine what the best course of action is, there is a need to self-evaluate strengths and weaknesses. The reports provide another fine opportunity to evaluate the learning that has taken place so far this year. I encourage all students to carefully read their reports and think about both their strengths and weaknesses and what opportunities are presented for further growth in the coming months.

It may be helpful to consider finishing each of the statements below:

    1. ‘The strengths I have consistently shown across my courses are…’
    2. ‘The comment I am most encouraged by is...’
    3. ‘The area of application that I could improve the most is...’
    4. ‘I need further help with...’
    5. ‘I am keen to improve…’
    6. ‘Resources available to assist my learning are…’

    Mr Paul Burns
    Deputy Headmaster

    Secondary News

    Years 7-10 Reports
The College will upload the reports for Years 7-10 and parents will be able to download their child’s report via the Parent Portal. A printed copy can be provided if required, please contact Student Reception in Term 3 to have this done and mailed out to you.

It’s important that students and parents take the time to read and look at their report from Semester 1. I personally always find the personal profile interesting where all students in all subjects areas are encouraged to be:

    • motivated learners
    • reflective learners
    • organised and prepared for class

Students should take note of their academic performance across all their subjects and begin to think about specific academic goals as they move into the final semester of the College year. Students should be encouraged to work hard and apply themselves to their learning, so they can achieve their personal best.

    Changes to timetable
Students are reminded that they need to check their Edumate timetable before they return to the College as there will be some changes that will occur to their timetable over the break. Changes will mainly be in the HSIE rotation and Technology rotation, but students may also have room changes.

Champ Camp - Year 12 Study Camp
I am excited to see so many of our students in Year 12 take the opportunity to attend a free study camp during the holidays. Many of our staff have been so gracious and generous with their time and are running additional workshops for students to help them get ready for their upcoming HSC Trial Exams and give them an opportunity to work on Major Works. The Camp will be held at the College and we hope that it will be a great opportunity for students to help consolidate their learning. Many thanks to the staff who are running these workshops.

    Mrs Kelly Evans
Director of Teaching & Learning 7-12

    Mission Fundraising

A big thank you to staff, students and parents for our Mission Fundraising last Friday. An impressive total was raised for our mission partners with strong contributions from each House Group. Congratulations to Grevillea who raised the most money and were crowned Foundation Day Mission Fundraising Champions for 2023.

    • Stage 4 - Mission Aviation Fellowship
    • Stage 5 - African Aids Foundation

    Performing Arts News

    Talent Quest 2023
It was great to see our students up on the new stage performing or showcasing their talents at this year's Talent Quest which occurred last Friday during the  20th-Year Foundation Day festivities. Students from Years 5-12 were in attendance. A Big thanks to our three judges, Mrs Post (in her second week at the College), Mr Roberts and last year’s winner, Allison Boland of Year 10.

Congratulations again to all the entrants, but big congratulations to Lucy Contrè of Year 7 who submitted a great video of her singing enthusiastically the great hit from Matilda the Musical, ‘Naughty’.

    Singapore Collaboration - Performing Arts
Our students have been working hard in preparation for their trip. At the time of publication, our students will be in Singapore and I look forward to having some of our Performing Arts students report back in one of the early Term 3 issues of the Waratah Weekly.

    Formal Assembly Performances
It has been great to witness many great performances at the Formal Assemblies this week. Particular compliments to the following students and Performing Arts Groups that performed:

    Primary Formal Assembly

    • Primary Dance (Stage 3) - led by Mrs Stark
    • Primary Strings - led by Ms Bridge

    Secondary Formal Assembly

    • College Strings - led by Ms Bridge
    • Audrey-Rose Darby - performed solo bassoon

Dance Company - unfortunately, due to the wet weather and a leaking Shelter roof, the stage was unsafe for our Dance Company to perform, but we instead enjoyed a recording of their MISA Dance Festival performance.

We also acknowledged some students from our Primary Dance (Stage 2 and Stage 3) and College Bucketz groups that earnt their Bar Badge, recognising one year of commitment in 2022. More badges will be awarded at the end of 2023.

    Mr Lloyd Grant
    Performing Arts Coordinator T-12

    College Chaplain - Resourcefulness

The College Learner Disposition focus for Term 2 is Resourcefulness. This is a habit that we are working on developing and cultivating in our students, their learning, their character and also in their faith.

We've been looking at the Book of Acts in staff devotions. This morning we heard about how Barnabas, whose name means 'son of encouragement', was sent from Jerusalem to Antioch in order to encourage the Christian community. Barnabas (Acts 11:23) sees how God has been working in the lives of these people and he encourages them to continue serving Jesus. Barnabas sees the evidence of God working in the lives of these people and connects the dots. He understands that whatever race, culture or ethnic background, a relationship with God is now available to any who place their trust in Jesus.

Barnabas makes the link between what Jesus said he was going to do before His ascension, and that's the point that Luke, the author of the book, is making. Jesus is still ruling and reigning from heaven and His presence is now with His people via the Holy Spirit. What Jesus said was going to happen is happening therefore, Theophilus and other readers of this book can be confident in trusting Jesus.

Barnabas makes the link between the claims that Jesus makes, and them eventuating, Barnabas chooses to be someone who gets on board with what God is doing - he supports and encourages those around him to continue looking to Jesus. The question that's left for us is how are we going to respond to Luke's claims about Jesus. Will we connect the dots like Barnabus or will we choose to disregard them?

    Mr Matt Roberts
    College Chaplain

    Stage 6 PDHPE Excursion

On Wednesday, 21 June, the Year 11 and 12 PDHPE classes visited the University of Wollongong (UOW) to engage in practical workshops to complement and reinforce their study of sports science-related concepts.

Year 11 went to the Anatomy Lab where they examined cadaveric materials to identify body structures and systems. They then completed a biomechanics practical session, measuring and observing the physics behind movement in sport.

The Year 12 group started at the Physiology Lab where they measured the capacity of the body to complete movement by measuring heart rate, power output, oxygen uptake and lactate levels. To finish, Year 12 undertook a workshop on exercise prescription in the gym. This was a highly practical session where they engaged in different types and methods of training.

The day was very worthwhile for the students, being able to experience first-hand the science behind movement and improving performance in sport.

    Mr Josh Hewitt
    PDHPE Coordinator
