Message from the Headmaster
We are grateful to be part of the wonderful Wollondilly community, and we deeply appreciate the partnerships that our local organisations, community groups and businesses have established within our community.
We would like to acknowledge and express our gratitude to the Bargo Historic Group for their generous donation to support the work of our WAC Kids Care program. Their contribution has had a significant impact on our students, acknowledging the work they do to prepare meals that directly support members of our community in need. This act of kindness exemplifies the true spirit of compassion and community support.
Additionally, we extend our heartfelt thanks to the SIMEC Mine in Tahmoor for their partnership with the GFG Foundation. Together, they have undertaken the important task of mentoring numerous young individuals across our community. This mentoring program plays a pivotal role in fostering young people's personal growth and development, guiding them towards becoming responsible and mature adults. This collaboration's positive influence strengthens the fabric of our entire community.
Peter Vale, Tahmoor Coal Executive General Manager, rightly acknowledges the significance of this mentoring program, "The GFG Foundation is a fantastic initiative. It is a great opportunity for the students of Wollondilly’s two high schools to be involved in a program that offers them opportunities to grow as young adults and learn more about the STEM programs and how they can benefit from them and realise their full potential." We wholeheartedly support this sentiment and are grateful for the enriching opportunities this partnership provides for our students.
We are truly fortunate to be situated in a community that values education and prioritises supporting the next generation of young leaders. Through the dedication and commitment of many local businesses and organisations, we can create a strong foundation for our students, enabling them to realise their full potential and pursue their aspirations.
As we express our sincerest gratitude, we would like to extend our appreciation to all the local businesses that have contributed to the growth and success of our College and the wider Wollondilly Community. Your unwavering support has made a tangible difference in the lives of our students, empowering them to thrive academically, socially, and personally.
We would like to specifically recognise the following businesses for their contributions towards various community programs in the area:
- Wollondilly Shire Council
- SIMEC - Tahmoor Mine
- Carpenter Partners, Tahmoor
- Little Elves Childcare Centres
- Macarthur Credit Union
- Highland Shutters – Smeaton Grange
- Wollondilly Women in Business
- Bendigo Bank
- Tyrepower Tahmoor
- JJ Performance
- Tahmoor Lions Club
- Kumon Bargo
- White Waratah Face Painting
- Y & A Kelly
- Kalinya Luxury Estate
- Bargo Baptist Church
These businesses, organisations, community groups and many others have demonstrated their dedication to fostering a thriving and supportive community. We encourage all our Wollondilly College members to show their appreciation by supporting these businesses whenever possible.
Once again, we sincerely thank all the local businesses that have contributed to our College and community. Your partnership and support make a significant difference in our students' lives and our community's collective growth.

Science and Engineering Competition
On Monday, 22 May, students from Year 9 Design and Technology and Year 10 iSTEM competed in the Annual Science and Engineering Competition at Mittagong RSL. The students faced eight different engineering challenges in groups of four against eight other local high schools. This year, we placed 4th overall which was a substantial improvement on our ranking from last year. The students demonstrated a willingness to try different ideas and gave it their best shot amongst some very stiff competition. Our bridge-building team, in particular, performed well against some of the other schools on the day. Well done to these students!
College Chaplain - Resourcefulness
The College Learner Disposition focus for Term 2 is Resourcefulness. This is a habit that we are working on developing and cultivating in our students, their learning, their character and also in their faith.
We've been looking at the book of Acts in staff devotions. We've been hearing about Stephen, a follower of Jesus, who has some false charges brought against him. Stephen responds by highlighting how God has constantly been working for His people even when God's people, Israel, constantly opposed God and pushed back against His ways.
I've been thinking about how one of the key attributes of our learning disposition on Resourcefulness is 'making links'. Stephen shows how Israel in the past has opposed God and His purposes. He then makes some clear links as to how this pattern of rejection is being seen again as the Jewish authorities oppose God by rejecting Jesus. This link that Stephen draws is missed by those to who he is speaking to. They're caught up in their culture and tradition and unwilling to be open to a message that challenges their beliefs.
As a Christian, one link that I draw is, it's easy to have a critical attitude when I look at the Jewish authorities who reject Jesus and think, come on! Listen to what Stephen is saying! However, I need to be careful because it's easy for me to not be honest about the blind spots in my own heart and mind where I'm ignoring God. It's easy for me to be critical of those who are making the same mistake that I can far too easily fall into - ignoring God.
What about you, what's the link that you draw from this story about Stephen? Maybe you can relate with those who Stephen is speaking to. Are you so entrenched in your cultural beliefs and traditions that you're unwilling to be open to the message of Jesus? Or maybe like me, you've got a tendency to not be honest with God about the blind spots in your heart and mind where you ignore Him.
The good news, however, that Tim Keller reminds us of is:
“The gospel is this: We are more sinful and flawed in ourselves than we ever dared believe, yet at the very same time, we are more loved and accepted in Jesus Christ than we ever dared hope.”
If you know Jesus personally, I encourage you to continue to be open, honest and real with him about the blind spots in your life. If you don't, I leave you with this challenge - What is stopping you from being open to the message of Jesus?
Mr Matt Roberts
College Chaplain
MyTech Loan Devices
There may be times when a student’s device is damaged, not functioning properly or is reaching a point of obsolescence. In order to ensure that students do not miss out on important learning opportunities, the College has a limited number of loan devices that students may borrow. In order for a student to borrow a loan device they need to fill out a ‘MyTech’ Student Loan Agreement.
A handwritten note from a parent is not sufficient as it is important that you are aware of the terms of the loan before we loan out a device.
This agreement can be picked up from Student Reception or downloaded from the ‘MyTech’ website http://mytech.wac.nsw.edu.au/
If you have any further questions about this or any other ‘MyTech’ issue please do not hesitate to send these to mytech@wac.nsw.edu.au

Primary Years Horse Riding
A select group of students in Stage 2 have been attending Endeavour Park Equestrian Centre for Sport on Wednesdays. They have been having an amazing time learning about how to care for horses, as well as how to ride in an arena setting.
There is an opportunity in Term 3 for another group of students to experience horse riding at Endeavour Park for Sport. Ms Huxtable, Mr Gooden and I will look at who expresses interest and will choose students who we feel would benefit most from the experience in reference to a set criteria.
IPSSO teams are a priority. If your child is part of a team representing the College they will not be able to participate in horse riding during that term.
The College is subsidising the Horse Riding Lessons, however, there will be a small cost of $15 per lesson for each student attending. If you would like your child to be considered for these lessons, please email me at equestrianteam@wac.nsw.edu.au by Thursday, 22 June, as the list will be considered on Friday, 23 June.

Together Arts Exhibition - Reconciliation Week
Last week, Wollondilly Anglican College was invited to participate in the Wollondilly Council, Together Arts Exhibition to celebrate Reconciliation Week. For the Exhibition, numerous fibre sculptures, weaved baskets and a large wall hanging was displayed, inspired by Indigenous artist Ronnie Jordan.
The students were blessed to work with Indigenous artist Ronnie Jordan who taught the students about bush toys and basket weaving. One of the baskets she showed the students was a 'Sister basket', it consisted of two spiral circles, one that Ronnie wove and one that her sister created. She then wove the two circles together to make a small basket. The students wove their own circles which were then woven together in a large wall hanging, showing how we are connected, even though we are all different. Ronnie spoke about the importance of being connected to each other, about support networks, about family and about being connected to Country. The students sat on the ground and made artworks while listening to the music of Indigenous musician Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu.
A part of reconciliation week is understanding, appreciation and respect for Indigenous Australians and their cultural beliefs and values which is a critical part of moving forward as a society. We are grateful to Ronnie Jordan from 'Culture on the Move' for sharing her culture, knowledge and artmaking skills with our students.
