Message from the Headmaster
We were all shocked to hear about the terrible car accident earlier this week that claimed the lives of five young Picton High students.
Understandably, many of our students, staff and families were distressed to hear this very sad news. Our community has been deeply affected and we share in the grief that so many are feeling. Our staff have been praying daily for the families of the students who lost their lives. We continue to pray for, and offer support to, our students who had connections through various sports teams, clubs and friendship groups.
Our staff on our Pastoral team have been checking in with students each day and providing time and space for those students to talk, grieve or simply sit quietly while they process this heartbreaking news. We have offered our support to Picton High and our local Primary Schools. We have also appreciated the ongoing support we have received from our colleagues in nearby Christian schools.
There is no right way for young people to grieve or express their feelings of loss or sadness. Some will ask lots of questions, some may become angry while others may be completely withdrawn. If you have any concerns about your children and would like for our team to connect with them, please let us know so that we can support them during their time at school.
We will continue to pray for each of our students and their families during this difficult time. Despite the sadness and tragedies that occur in our lives, we know that God is still a great, loving and caring Father for all those who reach out to him.
The following words from God are a comfort to me during difficult times:
Psalm 34:18 “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.”
Psalm 147:3 “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”
Philippians 4:7 “And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Deputy Headmaster's Report
The WAC Country Fair is on tomorrow! Saturday, 10 September 2022.
Join us this Saturday for what is going to be a great and fun day for the College community and the wider Wollondilly community. We look forward to being able to host the Fair again after a few years of disruption.

Year 12 Hospitality
Year 12 Hospitality have been finishing their unit this term on ‘Prepare and serve Espresso Coffee’. In this unit, students must learn about the variety of coffee styles that are served as well as the service-wear that they are served in. Year 12 learn about the correct way to extract a shot of espresso and how to texture a variety of milk types. In order to meet their competency assessment, students are required to prepare a range of coffee orders, so staff have been the eager recipients of their training. This is a great unit for the students to study, particularly as they look for employment as they leave the College. These extra skills learned in Hospitality are a great addition to their resumes.

AICES Athletics
Congratulations to the 30 students who represented NASSA at the AICES Athletics Championships this Tuesday. It was a great day with some excellent results. In total we had seven students qualify for the CIS Championships in Week 9. These students were Isabella Evans, Myles Brooks, Tapiwa Garakasha, Jayde Gitto, Rebecca Mills, Ben Napier and Emmett Shafer.
MISA Champions
This week, it was the final round of competition for all of our Term 3 MISA Sports. Overall, it was a great season that was topped off with two of our teams being named MISA Champions. The Year 9/10 Girls' Netball Side and the Year 7-9 Girls' Soccer Side both went through the season undefeated and continued their fine form in the Grand Final. Our Netballers, coached this season by Mrs McCann had a comfortable 6-goal win whilst Mr Jordan’s soccer team won 2-0. Congratulations to both teams and their coaches.

IPSSO vs Mount Anan Christian College
Another successful round for many of the WAC IPSSO teams.
The Junior Boys' Soccer Team contended with a resilient MACC, overcoming their opposition 2-1. The Senior Boys' Team participated in a rare 5-0 blow-out, with skillful goals from Lachlan Malcolm.
The Junior Netballers lost narrowly 5-2 while the Seniors won comfortably 31-9. The Senior Girls' Team's last game is a must-win against St Greg’s.
Mr Stark’s AFL teams both achieved victories. For both teams, next week’s contest against St Greg’s will be a decider to see who is crowned 2022 Winter IPSSO Champions. Both teams are ready for a tough game away against hungry and determined opposition.
The Newcombe Ball Team were successful over MACC 2 sets to nil. The Volleyballers succumbed to MACC.
Mrs Fredericks had some encouraging words for her teams
“Both teams played tremendously well and made me super proud with their effort, teamwork and sportsmanship. You should let them know how well they did if you see them, particularly the Seniors. They really pulled together this week and finally found their groove. Too bad they didn't win. They deserved it!”
Next week’s game is away against St Greg’s.
Primary NASSA Cricket Gala Day
Unfortunately, due to unsuitable conditions, the Primary NASSA Cricket Gala Day has had to be postponed. Stay tuned for a later date.
Years T-2 AFL
Throughout Fridays during Term 3, Years T-2 have been participating in sessions run by coaches from AFL NSW/ACT.

WAC Talent Quest
This year, the WAC Talent Quest is going to feature a combination of live and recorded auditions and performances, something we have seen over the last few years during Off-Campus Learning or affected by COVID restrictions.
These formats have meant that we have been able to feature some amazing talents that our students have, which are not possible in just a Live format on stage.
All students in Years 5-11 have been emailed a Google Form application and the relevant Canvas or Seasaw tasks to submit their video audition tapes. Submissions close Thursday, 15 September (Week 8). We will notify those who are finalised and who will perform their act or have their video submission played at the Talent Quest on Friday, 23 September (the last day of Term 3).
If any students have questions, please see Mrs Barker or Mr Grant.
We are looking forward to seeing who will be the next winner of the ‘Meerkat Trophy’.
