Message from the Headmaster
What does it mean to be an Anglican College? I enjoy discussing this with families who are considering Wollondilly Anglican College for their children. My response (to my own question!) is:
"We are an Anglican College which means we are a Christian organisation. All of our staff are Christians who believe in what the Bible says. We believe that God created the world, that mankind has chosen not to follow God's way, and God has sent Jesus to save us from our own sin. We believe that God has a plan for each of our students and we will regularly share how much God loves them and wants to have a personal friendship with them."
I also explain what this looks like in practice. In the younger years, our children will hear and read stories about God, they will sing songs about God and paint/colour/design art about God. It would be fair to say there is not a lot of thoughtfulness at this age but as our students get older, we encourage them to really think about God. We work on 'invitation', not 'indoctrination'. We want to invite every student to consider Christianity. We want them to think about what it means to be friends with God, to accept the promises that he offers and to know that their life will always be in God's safe hands. We encourage our students to speak to their parents about what is discussed in class. We encourage them to ask difficult questions in class so they can really understand who God is.
We also appreciate when parents have questions about anything their children are learning about. If you would like to speak to someone about God, about the Christian Studies lessons, or you have questions about what the Bible says, then please reach out to us. The following people would love to talk to you. We would also love to pray for you if there is anything you would like us to support you in.

Deputy Headmaster's Report
Toilet Use at the College
Pride in belonging has always been an important distinctive/characteristic of the College. Being proud of the uniform, representing the College while competing in sports teams, and supporting one another are all examples of ways students can show this. Another important way of showing pride in belonging is respecting and taking care of the College environment. Unfortunately, some students have not been showing the level of respect for aspects of the College environment that we would expect. Recently, we have had issues with vandalism and graffiti in toilets around the College. These have been largely focused in the Sturt and Melba toilets. In response to these events, from Monday, 22 August, we are closing these toilets during class time. Students will still be able to use the single-stall toilets in Johnson. The Sturt and Melba toilets will be opened during break times. Students are reminded of the following:
- Toilets are not a meeting place. You should not be entering toilets in groups
- Don't take food and drink into toilets
- Only use the toilet during class time in emergencies, make sure this is recorded in your diary
Media and Photography Consent
We have recently reviewed our media consent processes at the College and are now requesting that parents provide their consent through the College App. The specific details of this are on the form which will be communicated to all parents in the coming days. If you have any questions about this, I would encourage you to contact Mr Alex Hitchins our Development Manager a.hitchins@wac.nsw.edu.au
All students must have their forms completed by Monday, 29 August

Secondary News
Year 9
This week, Year 9 were presented with some strategies in terms of time management and study skills by an external organisation called 'Elevate Education'. Students were encouraged and were taught about the need to manage their time to complete homework tasks and work on assessments. We hope that Year 9 found this seminar useful and we encourage students to implement the strategies discussed.
Year 12
We welcome Year 12 back from their Trial HSC Examinations this week. As the students begin to receive some of their marks back, we encourage them to use the feedback that their teachers have provided to make adjustments to their program of study. Year 12 will also be sent a letter today with important dates and events for the remainder of the term. We encourage students to maintain their attendance, spending the remaining few weeks working towards improving content knowledge and examination techniques.

Pastoral Care
Week 6 Pastoral Care Lesson - Years 9 and 10 Girls
On Monday, 29 August, we will have a guest speaker attend the College. She is one of the NSW Clinical Educators at the Periods, Pain and Endometriosis Program (PPEP Talk®) with the Pelvic Pain Foundation of Australia (PPFA).
The PPEP Talk® is a 1 hour positive, fun, educational and interactive session discussing period pain, pelvic pain and endometriosis and is aimed at students in Years 9 - 12.
Prior to the session, students will be shown a video that provides refresher information about periods and pelvic anatomy before the PPEP Talk.
1 in 4 females will experience severe period pain that stops them from attending school, work or doing the things that they love.
1 in 9 females will go on to develop Endometriosis.
The program helps students to recognise whether their pain is normal or not, and gives them lots of options to better manage pain. The session will also cover healthy relationships, consent and how to support women in their life that experience pain.
If you have questions or concerns, please contact me.

Assistant Middle Pastoral Care Coordinator (Years 7 & 8)

The CIS Athletics Carnival will be held on Tuesday, 20 September 2022 at SOPAC Competition Track.
Change to IPSSO finals
Due to a disrupted season for the Northern IPSSO Pool, we will not be holding a play-off-style finals day this year. Instead, a first-past-the-post system will be employed to determine the winning side for that pool. (ie Team with most points by season's end)
While this change to finals is disappointing for WAC as we have quite a number of competitive sides who were in with a real chance of winning the finals, it does mean each team gets to play two more round games than they originally would have. For the sake of student participation in a year that has been very disrupted by COVID and wet weather, I think this is a welcome trade-off.
Our next IPSSO match is an away against Oran Park Anglican College.

Musical Update
Our upcoming College Music ‘Shrek’ preparations continue next Monday.
Rehearsals continue each Monday and conclude at 4.15 pm for both Secondary and Primary students. Primary students will continue to meet Mrs Barker and Miss McMaster at Elizabeth 5 after the normal College Day. Secondary cast members will now proceed to the Warne Auditorium for their rehearsals, as the Trial HSC Examinations have now concluded.
As we will now conclude our rehearsals together in the Warne Auditorium, students who are being picked up can now be collected from the Warne Auditorium car park. Students will also be supervised if they are utilising the late bus service.
Set Design for the Musical also continues on Monday with Mrs Ware in Melba 2, 2.45 pm - 4.15 pm. Pick-up arrangements are the same for these students.
Students who have expressed an interest in being part of the WAC Crew for the Musical have been spoken to by Mr Grant. These students will commence preparations with Mr Law on Monday next week commencing at 2.45 pm and finishing at 4.15 pm. Pick arrangements are the same for these students.
College Cheer - Your Next Step Dance Eisteddfod
Our College Cheer group have been working hard during their regular Wednesday afternoon rehearsals preparing for an upcoming competition known as the Your Next Step Dance Eisteddfod, to be held next Wednesday, 24 August 2022.
Students will attend the college for the normal college times in their sports uniform with hair and make-up done. Hair is to be in a slick high pony that is straightened. Make-up should include base foundation, brown eyeshadow, mascara if wanted and clear lip gloss/lip balm. Students have been notified of their costumes and will have them brought to the venue for the excursion and performance, with accessories to be provided on arrival as well. Students are required to wear their white sports socks and predominantly white sneakers for the performance item and should have these as part of their sports uniform. Students need to arrange their own black bike shorts, tan stockings and other necessities.
If there are any questions or concerns please email Miss Valente (k.valente@wac.nsw.edu.au) who can confirm the details. Please also ensure your child's attendance for the event via the College app.
As this is a public competition, it does require an entry fee for audience members. Miss Valente and I are encouraging parents and the wider WAC community to support these girls by purchasing a ticket at the door.
The event will be held at the Camden Civic Centre. Parents are asked to arrive before 11.00 am to see students perform at 11.20 am.
- Adult $20.00 and Child is $10.00 (CASH ONLY)
- Children under 2 are FREE

There are also some opportunities for some soloists during the day. Mr Grant and Mrs Barker may have already spoken directly to these students about this, but if your child is interested in presenting a Music, Dance or Drama solo item, please get in touch with Mr Grant (7-12) or Mrs Barker (K-6).

Elective Music Excursion
On Thursday, 18 August, Elective Music students from Years 10 and 12 were treated to an afternoon of blissful music at the newly renovated Sydney Opera House.
The students listened to Maria Grenfell’s ‘Clockwerk’, a string work described by the composer herself as written with Baroque period influences that are shared amongst the full Ensemble as well as a solo group within.
The students were then entertained by the very vibrant violinist Ray Chen who performed Mendellsohn’s Violin Concerto and finally, heard the fabulous Beethoven’s Symphony No.4.
Many thanks to Mr Warland for driving the students into the city and Mr McIntosh for accompanying the students and I into the Opera House.
