Deputy Headmaster's Report
Holiday Rest
In our morning devotions this week, our Learning Support Teacher/College Chaplain Mr Matt Roberts reminded us of God's good creation which includes rest. God in his wisdom set a pattern for us by resting on the 7th day. We have an all-powerful God and no doubt He personally doesn’t need the rest but He knows that we do!
In the Old Testament, God calls all of creation to rest and with the coming of Jesus, God gives us rest, In fact, Jesus himself reminds us that all who are burdened and weary should come to him for rest. As a Christian, it is a great reminder that we have Jesus who can give us rest from the burdens of this world and that we don’t need to do everything in our own strength.
At the end of a Term, I know both students and staff are in need of rest and I trust the next few weeks will provide that Sabbath. I encourage you all to use the period of rest well, recharging physically, emotionally and spiritually. My wife Ruth and I will be spending a week in Tasmania celebrating our 20 Year wedding anniversary and are looking forward to the rest that this trip will bring.
Mr Paul Burns
Deputy Headmaster
Changes to Girls' Uniform (Sneak Preview)
We are excited to let parents know that there will be some changes to the girls' College Uniforms. From Term 4 this year, Primary girls will have an option to wear shorts and a blouse in Summer terms, instead of the Summer dress. From 2023, girls will have a pants option for Winter. For secondary girls, we are working on a pants and a shorts option at the moment with the hope that these will be available for 2023.
The process has involved input from staff, parents and a lot of students. We know that in all things such as this, not everyone will love the final choice, and so I'd like to emphasise that the girls are more than welcome to continue to wear the current dress or skirts. The pants and shorts will be an option.
Further details will come out next term.

Thirlmere Festival of Steam
This past weekend, a number of WAC students represented the College in Performing Arts at the Thirlmere Festival of Steam.
The College Strings performed on stage before an enthusiastic audience near the Steam Museum. They performed with distinction and a big thank you is due to Ms Bridge, for her guidance and for leading the Ensemble at this event.
The College Cheer Ensemble also participated over the weekend in the Thirlmere Festival of Steam Parade. They were dressed to the nines in Steam Punk accessories and performed their Parade routine on loop with great strength and energy throughout. The Cheerleaders are to be congratulated on their wins for 'Best Choreographed Dance Routine' and the Grand Prize for 'Best Parade Entry'. Well Done to all!

TAS News - Industrial Technology Timber
Students in Year 10 Industrial Technology Timber recently completed their first-semester unit which required them to construct a small Occasional Table. During the build process, students were required to complete detailed drawings and the cutting list for the project. Flooded gum (Eucalyptus Grandis) was the timber of choice and the frame was constructed using mortice and tenon joints which honed the skills of the students both in terms of marking out, and their ability to fine-tune joints using a chisel. Legs were tapered on two sides and the tops were made by joining boards using a number of widening joints. Those students who wished to develop skills of a higher level were encouraged to put stringing in the legs and either inlay or a laser-cut design on the top of the table. Students were then instructed in the process of French Polishing and applied many coats of shellac to complete the finishing of the table. Results were pleasing and the students are to be congratulated on their efforts.

Stage 6 PDHPE Excursion to the University of Wollongong
On Friday 24 June, the Year 11 and Year 12 PDHPE classes visited the University of Wollongong (UOW) to engage in practical workshops to complement and reinforce their study of Sports Science related concepts. Year 11 went to the Anatomy Lab where they examined cadaveric materials to identify body structures and systems. They then completed a biomechanics practical session, measuring and observing the physics behind movement in sport. The Year 12 group started at the Physiology Lab where they measured the capacity of the body to complete movement by measuring heart rate, power output, oxygen uptake and lactate levels. To finish, Year 12 undertook a workshop on exercise prescription in the gym. This was a highly practical session where they engaged in different types and methods of training. The day was very worthwhile for the students, being able to experience first-hand the science behind movement and improving performance in sport.

Wollondilly Cultural Precinct, a space everyone can enjoy!
Things are progressing with the Wollondilly Cultural Precinct and we are ready to develop concept designs for Stage 2 works. We want to hear from you to help design some of the key community and civic spaces that make up the Wollondilly Cultural Precinct including the village green, library and Government Services Building.
We want to understand how you and your family would like to use these spaces, what community activities you would like to see take place there and to discuss ideas for how we can create a vibrant and lively Precinct that everyone can enjoy.
