Message from the Headmaster
This week we have been reading through 2 Corinthians for our morning staff devotional time. 2 Corinthians is one of the letters found in the New Testament of the Bible; a letter that was written by the Apostle Paul to the early Church. Paul writes to encourage them with an understanding of the difference between our temporary physical bodies and our eternal spiritual souls. He writes "Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day" (2 Cor 4:16). Paul was noting that our physical bodies are aging. This life on earth is a temporary existence in temporary bodies, we are not going to live forever as we currently are. Scientists search for ways to prolong life, to ward off disease, to somehow find the secret to eternal youth, or at least long life, but this quest will be ultimately unsuccessful; we will not live forever, at least not in these bodies. While this may seem like a sad statement, Paul has also expressed the good news. While our bodies may be wasting away, our soul is being renewed through a relationship with Jesus. God created us to live in relationship with him, and we have all, at some point, chosen to live life in our own way, thereby rejecting God's plan for us. But in his amazing love, God sent his son Jesus to pay the price for our rejection of God (this is what Christians mean when we say that 'Jesus died for me'). For those who have accepted this free gift from God, our souls are being renewed so that we can become more like Jesus, so that we can live with the peace, joy, hope and love that God wants us to experience, and I am grateful for this everyday. If you would like to know more about how you can experience more peace, joy, hope and love in your life, then please reach out to us. We would love to talk to you about this.

Term 2 Working Bee
Community Building
The Term 2 College Working Bee provides a great opportunity to build community. This is a wonderful opportunity for parents and students to serve in relation to our College grounds. There are a number of jobs that additional hands would assist in completing to keep our College grounds looking spectacular. More importantly, it is an opportunity to meet as a community, serve with an outward focus and make new connections with one another.
Term 2 Working Bee Program: Saturday, 18 June
8.00 am - BBQ Breakfast - Please RSVP to Daniel Warland (Property Manager) by Thursday, 16 June at d.warland@wac.nsw.edu.au to indicate if you are attending this section for catering purposes. Bacon and Egg rolls are on the menu.
Matt Roberts our Community and Pastoral Support Aide will be around during this time to facilitate a prayer breakfast. This will see attendees able to grab a Bacon and Egg Roll and engage in some prayer for the College and our world.
8.30 am - Working Bee Commences. A special encouragement to Year 11 and Year 12 students to attend and assist in a specific project tailored to working on the gardens around the Flynn Building. Tasks around other parts of the College include weeding and mulching gardens, raking up bark that has spread outside of the gardens, and blowing paths and walkways. We do have equipment, but if you have your own hand tools, gloves, wheelbarrows and even blowers that may be helpful.
12.30 pm - A Sausage Sizzle Lunch served by our P&F with the day to conclude at 1.00 pm
All students who attend will be issued a Community Service Merit.

Teaching & Learning Secondary News
Explicit instruction
Across the College, teachers in both Primary and Secondary have been looking at and continuing to develop their skills in ‘Explicit Instruction’ as a method of teaching their lessons. The ultimate aim of using the Explicit Instruction model is to improve the learning outcomes of students and to improve the delivery of lesson content. Explicit Instruction is a concept that has been part of the College’s Educational Framework for some time, however, it is an area that the College has chosen to focus on. It will include regular professional learning as well as teacher observation designed to improve their professional practice.
As part of teachers being reflective on their practice as educators, teachers will be filming their lessons for review. The filming device will be set up at the back of the classroom and is designed to focus on the teacher. There is no intentional filming of students – but rather, the backs of students’ heads may be visible. This practice is to be done to improve lesson content and delivery. Once the footage has been viewed by the teacher delivering the lesson and professional dialogue around lesson content has been discussed, the footage will be deleted.
Year 11 2023
A reminder that next week Wednesday, 15 June and Thursday, 16 June our Year 10 students will be attending seminars around the various subjects on offer in 2023. They will not attend regular classes but rather they will attend seminars in the Auditorium. On the evening of Thursday, 16 June at 7.00 pm, parents are invited to attend with their child to hear more about the Stage 6 pathway (Year 11 and Year 12) requirements.

Dance Company News - MISA Dance Festival
Dance Company have been preparing an artistic dance work for the upcoming MISA Dance Festival. The MISA Dance Festival is an annual event where our Dance students are able to showcase their works with other Independent and Catholic schools. The students are very excited to perform again or for the first time at the Campbelltown Catholic Club, The Cube, on Tuesday, 21 June. Parents should have received a notification about this event which occurs during College hours and should respond ASAP on the College App.
Parents/carers are also welcome to attend the event to see the showcased work. More information about times or performance sessions will be released over the coming weeks.
Wollongong Bluescope Eisteddfod
Our Dance Company is planning for an upcoming competition in Wollongong known as the Bluescope Eisteddfod. The students are competing in the school division/category and I know Miss Valente and the students are working extremely hard preparing for this eisteddfod.
Parents should have already been notified via the College App regarding information for this competition, and I encourage parents to reply to this ASAP. As this is a public competition, it is a ticketed event. Miss Valente and I are encouraging parents and the wider WAC community to support these girls by purchasing a ticket.
The event is on Saturday, 2 July (the first Saturday of the upcoming Term break).
Tickets go on sale next Tuesday, 7 June, at 10.00 am via merrigong.com.au
All Tickets are $15.00 (If the dancers would like to enter the theatre after their performance, they must purchase a ticket). Tickets are General Admission - Not Allocated Seating.

The College Cheer group will be participating in the parade. Students are to meet Miss Valente at the College Tent at 10.00 am.
