From The Headmaster - Thank You and Farewell Rhonda Hay
I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the remarkable journey of a remarkable woman who has been an integral part of our College community for over 18 and a half years. Rhonda Hay is more than just a colleague; she is the embodiment of humility, care, and selflessness—a true servant-hearted woman whose presence has touched the lives of countless people. While her primary responsibility has been as Personal Assistant to the Headmaster, the scope of her service has gone way beyond this role.
From the moment she joined our small and growing College so many years ago, Rhonda has consistently demonstrated an unwavering commitment to, and desire to, help others. Whether it is lending a listening ear, offering a helping hand, or simply sharing her infectious joy, she has been a source of comfort and strength to everyone around her. Her actions speak volumes about her character, revealing a person who genuinely cares about the well-being of others, always placing their needs above her own. Our staff have greatly appreciated all that she does, and so have our students. Rhonda has mentored many Year 12 students and supported them during their final year of study at the College and I know that they have appreciated the care that they have received from her.
In addition to her caring nature, Rhonda is known for her fun-loving spirit. Her laughter and positive energy have brightened many days, turning even the most ordinary moments into funny memories. Her ability to bring joy into every situation is a gift that has left a special impression on our community.
But what I truly admire about Rhonda is her deep faith and trust in our Lord Jesus Christ. Rhonda's life is a demonstration of the fruit of the Spirit; her kindness, patience and love for others demonstrate to everyone the characteristics of a true woman of God. Her faith has been a great encouragement to many across our College community.
As we celebrate and thank Rhonda today, we reflect on the incredible impact she has had on our College. She is adored by all and her presence has made our community a better place. We are grateful for her years of service, for the love and care she has shown and for the countless ways she has enriched our lives.
Rhonda, thank you for your dedication, your humility, and your genuine faith. You have been a blessing to us all, and we know that our College is a better place because of your presence. May you continue to inspire and uplift others as you have done so beautifully over the past 18+ years. We wish you well and pray that you have a fun and exciting retirement!

Term 3 Learner Dispositions
Building Relational Learner Dispositions: A Reflection On Our Journey This Term
As the term draws to a close, we reflect on the journey our students have undertaken in developing their relational learner dispositions. Throughout this series, we’ve explored key qualities that foster positive learning relationships, not only in the classroom but also within the broader College community. These dispositions—interdependence, collaboration, empathy, listening and imitation are essential in shaping students who are not only engaged and effective learners but also thoughtful and considerate individuals.
Interdependence: Learning Together
By focusing on interdependence, emphasising how success in learning is often the result of shared efforts. Our students learned that while independence is important, knowing when and how to rely on others enriches the learning experience. In understanding interdependence, students will grow to appreciate the value of collective problem-solving and the strength that comes from shared perspectives.
Collaboration: Strength in Unity
Collaboration encourages students to work together with a shared purpose. Whether through group projects, peer learning, or joint creative endeavours, students discovered that collaboration requires trust, communication and mutual respect. Working with others fosters critical thinking and opens up new possibilities, helping students realise that together, we can achieve more than we could alone.
Empathy: Understanding and Compassion
Empathy teaches students to put themselves in others' shoes. Through discussions, role-playing and reflection, they learned how empathy deepens connections, builds strong relationships and helps create a supportive environment. By understanding the feelings and perspectives of others, our students are better equipped to navigate conflicts and contribute to a more inclusive and compassionate community.
Listening: The Power of Paying Attention
In a fast-paced world, the ability to listen actively is more important than ever. We emphasised listening as a vital skill not only for academic success but also for effective communication in all areas of life. Through mindful listening, students can hone their ability to understand others deeply, respect different viewpoints and respond thoughtfully. Students need to practice and develop this disposition, learning that listening is not just about hearing words but truly understanding the meaning behind them.
Imitation: Learning from Others
Finally, we explored imitation, showing how observing and modelling positive behaviours can be a powerful tool for growth. Students learned to identify role models in both peers and mentors, imitating strategies that lead to success while developing their own unique approaches. Imitation, when used wisely, fosters continuous learning and self-improvement, helping students shape their personal and academic lives.
It is clear that relational learner dispositions are vital not only for individual success but also for creating a positive, respectful and supportive learning environment.

Secondary Sports Uniform worn for Physical Education Lessons
At Wollondilly Anglican College, our College Uniform is a key part of our College identity, reflecting our commitment to excellence, unity and professionalism. Recently, there has been an increase in students wearing the Sports Uniform on days when the regular College Uniform is required. Please remember that the Sports Uniform should only be worn on the scheduled PE day or sports days, and not on any other occasion unless there is an absolute emergency.
Wearing the normal College Uniform on all other days is essential in presenting a cohesive and respectful image, both within our College and to the broader community. It also prepares students for future professional environments, where adhering to a dress code is expected.
If you find yourself in a situation where wearing the sports uniform is unavoidable, please communicate with your Year Patron or PDHPE teacher.

Industrial Technology Invitation
Over the past 12 months, HSC students in the Industrial Technology course have been Designing and Producing their Major Works. The externally marked project comprises a significant part of their overall result for the subject. The students have spent many hours above and beyond what is required to complete their projects to a very high standard.
Due to restrictions, images of the projects cannot be placed on any social media platforms (Including the Waratah Weekly) prior to marking, and as such, we cannot even offer even a sneak preview; but to say the least, I am very proud of what each student has achieved. As a result, I would like to invite all parents and students who may have even the slightest interest in either Industrial Technology Furnishings or Multimedia to come to an Exhibition of the completed Major Works on Wednesday, 11 September between 5.00 pm and 6.30 pm in Deakin 2 & 3. By this point in time, the projects will be marked and as a result, you may even take photos!
During this time, you can speak to the students, look in detail at the completed projects, ask questions and potentially fuel a desire to create an equally impressive project in the years to come. Please come and join us to see what hard work and determination can produce.

Term 3 Prayer Breakfast -31 August
Amongst the busyness of Term 3, I'd like to extend an opportunity for you to join us as we stop, pause and bring the things on our hearts and minds to God in prayer.
Our Term 3 Prayer Breakfast will be kicking off on Saturday, 31 August. All are welcome to join us from 8.00 am - 8.30 am for some pastries and fruit before we join together in prayer from 8.30 am - 9.00 am.
I completely understand the busy schedule all of us have on the weekends. There are many competing factors and commitments. Saturday is normally full of community sporting events along with various other activities. However, in this business, taking the time to stop and pause with our great God is incredibly beneficial.
I'd love to see you there!

College Working Bee
I am writing on behalf of the College Prefects to encourage students and parents to join the staff and the College Student Leaders at the Term 3 Working Bee. This event will take place on Saturday, 31 August from 8.00 am - 1.00 pm. This year the organisation of the Working Bee will be in Zones based on House Groups.
As students of the College, we would like to promote this as an opportunity for service and community building. Your contributions can make a real and positive impact on the lives of others and your environment. Serving others helps you develop personally, by serving, you can inspire and motivate others to get involved and contribute positively. The Student Leaders at the College want to set an example in this area and would like to see as many students, staff and parents attend this event. It would be greatly appreciated if you could spare an hour of your day to serve at this event. All students who attend will be issued with a Community Service Merit. This year we will be adding additional House Points to the House of students, staff and parents that attend, these will accrue to the Overall House Shield.
The College has reduced the number of Working Bees from four per year to two per year. With this in mind, it would be great to see our community prioritise the opportunities to build community and serve.
Please note, we only have a limited supply of tools and equipment, therefore it is important that you bring your own gardening tools, blowers, gloves and anything else you think might help on the day. Mr Warland, the College Property Manager will be onsite to assist students and parents if you have questions.

Transition Egg Hatching
Transition Egg Hatching Program
During the last few weeks, our Transition classes enjoyed our exciting Chick Egg Hatching Program as part of our Science unit on farms. The students watched as eggs in an incubator slowly transformed into fluffy chicks in the enclosure. When the program began, we already had one chick that had hatched, giving the children an early look at what was to come.
Throughout the first week, most of the eggs began to hatch, and the classrooms were filled with excitement as the students watched the chicks peck their way out of their shells. The children learned about the life cycle of the chicks in the eggs and that there are more chickens than people on Earth.
The students were thrilled to see the chicks emerge and quickly learned how to gently handle them. They also discovered the importance of keeping the chicks warm and fed.
This program was a highlight for our young learners, giving them a hands-on way to explore a scientific investigation on how eggs hatch, and for some, a chick to take home.

Elective German
Students in Year 9 and Year 10 Elective German have had a fabulous time cooking traditional German foods this week. We followed German recipes to cook Spätzle and Marmorkuchen. It was wonderful to have our German exchange student Claire here. She gave us authentic cooking tips from her Oma and Opa. Their tips made our food an amazing success!

The College Learner Disposition
This week, I had the privilege of taking nine students who attend the Years 5-6 lunchtime Christian Group to a CRUFIT training day held at Broughton Anglican College. The day was all about equipping and encouraging students in their Christian journey. The day highlighted how important it is to spend time with other Christians as it's such a pivotal way we grow in our faith.
For the students who came along, they were greatly encouraged to see so many students from other schools who are Christians. It's a fantastic opportunity for these students to build relationships with other Christians that will hopefully continue to be a support for many years to come.
Our faith grows as we meet with other Christians. It's an opportunity to encourage and spur one another on. I'm incredibly thankful for the Crusaders team who put together these days. I'm incredibly thankful for the blessing of Christian community and for the way God uses it to shape and transform His people. It causes me to reflect on the value of community and how relationships with one another are so important. The Christian life is meant to be walked in community with others. I leave you with this thought, "Who are you walking in this life with"?
Hebrews 10:24–25
And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.
